Staying with Basque families

Lazkao’s Basque families have a long tradition of hosting students. When we started giving summer courses in 1974, students would board with Basque families. We have always tried to teach everyday Basque. We believe that “living euskara” (doing everything in Basque) is the best way to learn the language.

• Lazkao is a Basque town, so we should take advantage of it by:
• Living with a Basque family, so the student can speak Basque even after classes are finished.
• Learning Basque apart from the Basque model in the barnetegi.
• Helping students to use what they learn in class.
• Becoming familar with conversations on the streets.
